About Us

Based in Edinburgh, Woolly Originals uses vintage knitting machines to create Woolly fabric to make bags for knitters, crocheters, crafters and artists to use for their projects and for their tools.

The bag designs are based on a range of ideas and inspiration: the Scott Monument on Princes Street, Edinburgh; the shapes of gin bottles; Scottish wildflowers & trees; organic fruit orchards; or Scandinavian & Shetland star motifs.

Wools from Jamieson's of Shetland are mainly used to create the outer Woolly fabric. Scottish Linen in Kirkcaldy, Fife provides the linen or cotton lining fabrics. Butttons, ribbons, upcycled fabrics, other brand yarns, embroidery and crochet techniques may be used to create or decorate limited edition Woolly Originals bags.

Kalopsia, a social enterprise company in Leith, Edinburgh now sew up the bags for Woolly Originals. I chose to use this company because waste management, micro manufacturing, ethical production, sustainability, the love of textiles, and combining innovation with tradition all play an important part in Kalopsia's business ethos.

Photographs of Woolly Originals' work can also be viewed on Instagram, Facebook, pInterest and Twitter as @woollyoriginals. Hand knits and crochet projects can also be seen on Ravelry.

Please note that everyone is welcome at Woolly Originals, as long as you welcome everyone.
